What is tragacs!?

It's a Hungarian word for old, not so well running cars. I'm currently working on a truck which is not a tragacs anymore. I dedicate this site to this work and you can follow my experience with this car (actually it's a truck) and hopefully with others in the future.

The truck? Well. It's kinda special one.

91' GMC Syclone. #2613 from #2998. 4.3 V6 turbo charged, intercooled, AWD with automatic. It was advertised with 280BHP@4400RPM and 474NM@3600RPM in stock form. Now, I can't say it's stock any more.

The site is under heavy construction. Working on the truck is my favourite sparetime business and I'd like to document it, but I've other things to do. Family, work, dogs etc. Anyway, you got the idea...

  • 2004-04-28 The first promised update was made. You can check out my updated History/Plans page.
  • 2004-04-28 So actually, I'm planning a lot of updates in the next few days. I'd like to update my suspension page as well as finish my promised tranny update. BTW, hopefully my tranny survived the carnage, because I've really liked how it performed. I'll also update my history/plan page adn probably update my engine page as well. You will see an update with the log's of the last run as well. So stay tunned.
  • 2004-04-28 So you may ask what's next. As you could see on my plans page I've planned a new engine build and ordered the main componenets back in las December. Originaly I've planned to do the engine build on a stand and make replace the old engine over the winter. Because of this the main components were ordered, but a lot of misc items were missing. So the first thing after the failure was to order all the missing pieces. The first target is to receive everything in April, which won't happen in 100%, but I'm quite close.

    New engine is here

Also I've decided to make my front suspension and brake upgrade while the truck is a sitting duck. Since all the components were here for the suspension upgrade I started with this right after I've removed a dissasembled the old engine.
  • 2004-04-28 Long time no update. To be honest I've to collect some strength to make this update. So, at the 3rd of April my stock short block gave up finally. It happened on a nice Saturday afternoon, while I was doing an "exhibition" 1/8 mile pass at a VW-Audi meeting. Approx. 20 meters before the finish line I've heard a big boom and that was it. I was racing the fastest Audi out there. I was braking immediately after the boom, but he still couldn't catch up...

    Stock Engine...RIP

My theory is, that most probably a rod bent, which hanged up the whole engine, which broke the crank into 4. The crank pulley strained the belt, which broke the AC delete pulley down, which went into the electrin fan, which destroyed the radiator. A chatastrophic failure indeed. I was logging, but I can't see any extraordinary, which could cause this. I guess it just gave up. After more than two years of racing that was in the pack for while now.
  • 2004-03-20 A few days ago, my stock starter developped a strange noise and finally it couldn't start the track. Originaly I didn't want to put this onto my current engine, but my stock started decided otherwise.

    Starters

I really like the new CVR mini starter. It's 3 pounds lighter than the stock , and it has a completely different voice, when starting. The installation also went really smooth.
  • 2004-03-19 I've received a few comments, that there is not enough picture of the Sy on the site. Here comes one. The first nice day in 2004.

    2004 started

  • 2004-03-19 As you might already guessed from the previous update, I've finished my tranny rebuilt. Before we are going into more details on this let me say a public thanks to George Blake for the tremendous help and assist and parts I got from him in the last few months, during this rebuild. I still don't know where I'm now, but one this is sure. I'll be still in the middle of "not understanding" land without him. Thanks George! As on the details, I'm currently working on an update for my tranny page, so pls bear with me.
  • 2004-03-19 Wow, that's a shame. I've not updated the site for more than two months. However I was busy with the Sy during this time, as you will see, so pls forgive me. For the first update pls take a look at my new 2004 performance page. The first run of this year has been posted.
  • 2004-01-07 I'm still waiting for some parts for my tranny. Hopefully I'll be able to put it back under the truck early March. Till then check my history page, which I updated with new plans. I've also created my racing page for this year.
  • 2004-01-07 I've gotten a good news Today. Thanks to Ed, my Sy is on the front of the 2004 SyTy Calendar. Thanks a bunch Ed. Check it out yourself on Ed's page. Go and order a few... ;-)
  • 2004-01-07 There is a reason why I've not update the site for quite a long time. Here is a hint:

    A tranny...

I've not finished the tranny rebuilding yet. You can expect an update on my tranny page once I'm done, which hopefully will happen early February. I'll be on vacation in the rest of the month, so that is causing a few weeks delay...
