Ignition

The ignition is one of the most touchy point of these trucks. Pls read my Maintenance page's ignition section first. Additionally to the information there here comes some information regarding some aftermarket parts. * MSD is the name if we are talking ignition in our trucks. There are several people using MSD distributor (#8367), ignition box 6A (#6200), MSD coil (#8226) with GM type of wiring harness (#8776). I'd say I'm happy with the stock components it could take me toward my goal. However if you have to replace your distributor for some reason, MSD could be the only way. There are no new assembled distributor from GM, just a rebuilt one, or you can buy the components one by one. There are some people who are reporting bad experience with the MSD coil combined with otherwise non MSD ignition, so I'd say stay away from this. There are also some people who are reporting problems with MSD and Speedpro.
