Documentation
You can't work on your car if you have no proper documentation covering it. For my Sy I've the following docs to work from:
- 1991 Light Truck S/T Models Service Manual, X-9129 from Helm
- 1991 Light Duty Truck Unit Repair Manual, X-9137 from Helm
- 1991 Light Duty Truck Fuel and Emissions Service Manual, X-9136 from Helm
- 1991 Syclone Service Manual Supplement, X-9176 from Helm
- 1991 Light Truck S/T Models Electrical Diagrams and Diagnosis Manual, X-9129 from Helm
- GMC Syclone Typhoon Master Technician Overview from Sportmachines
- GMC Syclone Service Highlights from Sportmachines
- Driveability and Service: Typhoon and Syclone Reference Manual from Sportmachines
Some of the above books from Helm are not available any more. On
Sportmachines you can also find the Official Syclone Typhoon CD-ROM. It has been made by Opie, a fellow SyTyer and it's quality is exceptional. All of the above docs but the Repair Manual can be found on the CD (even the Electrical Manual on v3) and much more for $40. For example the whole parts book with all the exploded views and part numbers. Anyway you shouldn't own this CD if you don't have the paper based stuff in you possession. Licensing...
The parts books are available on micro fiche as well. You can find it for $35 on ebay, sometimes cheaper, I bought mine for $12. 14 fiches.

There are a bunch of other books which I use to gather general information. To essential readings about turbo charging:

Two good books regarding engine rebuilding:

First of all I recommend the ATSG manuals. I've also found a quite good book on rebuilding 700R4 (4L60) trannys. As you can read in my tranny section I've some serious plans, so I gonna searching some more stuff on this field.
